What is offered by the counseling department at Crown
Point School.
The school counselor provides direct services to
students in many areas including academic success, occupational
exploration, personal and emotional concerns. By assisting students to
assess their abilities, interests and needs, the counselor addresses the
New York State Career Development and Occupational Studies standards and
the three essential questions:
Who am I?
Where am I going?
How do I get there?
The counseling office
is open to all student, parents/guardians, teachers, community members
and past graduates. To make an appointment, please call the school or
email the counselor at
crussell@cpcsteam.org.
The counselor will assist students by
providing one-on-one counseling, group counseling and referral to
appropriate outside agencies as necessary. Annually, each student in
grades 7-12 will meet with the counselor to review progress toward
graduation and career goals. This will include course selection for
scheduling. Annually, the counselor arranges for the PSAT (Preliminary
Scholastic Aptitude test for 11th graders) and the ASVAB
(aptitude test with interest inventory for 11th and 12th
graders) to be given to interested students.
For seniors, the counselor works with the
Senior Seminar teacher to assist in all aspects of college research,
application to college and financial aid. Annually, the counselor plans
a financial aid night.
